Speaker 0 00:00:01 Previously on no other way. Frank recalled ending a standoff by commanding a rooftop SWAT member wound, the perpetrator's shoulder rescuing the PERB son whom he taken hostage. Speaker 1 00:00:23 I ran into a Elias the other day. Speaker 2 00:00:26 Huh? How is he Speaker 1 00:00:27 Putting himself back together? Just like us. I look forward to a day when we can interact without him feeling compelled to apologize Speaker 0 00:00:37 In a moment of vulnerability, Nora and Frank fell back into one another's arms. Speaker 1 00:00:42 I miss this. Speaker 2 00:00:44 I miss it. More. Speaker 0 00:00:45 Claudia recognized the location where the first nuclear device was uncovered. Speaker 3 00:00:50 It's a government black site. It's where they detained persons of interest, who they deem a threat off the books Speaker 0 00:00:56 And received a visit from our parole officer Joe, who posed ominous question. Speaker 4 00:01:02 Where's the body Claudia. Where's the body. Claudia. Speaker 0 00:01:06 Sam tracked down getaway driver, Harrison galley and ROA Kelson. The woman who executed his partner, Mack in retaliation for the murder of her son, Josiah don't move. Don't you move. While recuperating at home, Sam was attacked by a mass to Salan who assaulted him and escaped, leaving him battered and screaming on his bathroom. Floor. Martin visited his lawyer, Albert O'Malley who assuaged his client's fears. It's okay, Marty, whatever it is, whatever you've done, you'll move past it. He received a disturbing call from a mystery woman with a dire warning. Speaker 5 00:01:46 Why did 40 officer just surround my goddamn warehouse? The Speaker 0 00:01:50 Warehouse is his Speaker 5 00:01:52 Ours. Speaker 0 00:01:53 I didn't know that. I don't know Speaker 5 00:01:54 Anything. Well, you better find out who does Marty. Your family's lives depend on it. And Speaker 0 00:02:01 What the way his wife, Angela and their young son to his father-in-law's home for safety back in his driveway, Martin weed. As he replayed the threatening video he received taken from inside his sleeping son's bedroom. An agent brew Baker's interrogation of Harrison galley leads to his death, which brew baker caused to taut the voice, your move asshole. And now chapter three in a darkened bedroom on a rainy night, a phone rings, someone groans drowsy in the dark. Ugh. A light is turned on above a nightstand Martin's lawyer. Albert O'Malley leans into the light as he answers O'Malley. Speaker 6 00:02:54 So we have to keep not breathing. Speaker 0 00:02:56 Slow down, slow down, take a deep breath. Where are you? Were there any witnesses? Speaker 7 00:03:09 I dunno. Speaker 0 00:03:10 You call an ambulance. Speaker 7 00:03:12 Help me. Speaker 0 00:03:13 I'll take care of it. Stay off the phone. I'll be right there. O'Malley hangs up and leaps from the bed in his car. O'Malley balances his phone between his ear and shoulder as he navigates the slippery freeway road, right? Just south of the 4 0 5. Who are you bringing? Okay. Okay. They're good. All right. I want you to take her to the medical center on grand. My contact Peter will meet you outside and take it from there. Take the other guy to Cedars. Hopefully he's still unconscious. Yeah, I'm pulling up now. How soon will you get here? Good. O'Malley pockets. His phone as his car slows and crosses into the right lane. Up ahead, two sets of skid marks lead into a guardrail, which has been breached and has been wide open, leading into a patch of woods. He pulls his car to the side and steps down into the brush in the woods. O'Malley surveys. The scene two wrecked vehicles live near feet from one another. He approaches the first car, which has been around a tree in the driver's seat. Elias gray. The man in his thirties is slumped over his wheel, unconscious in the distance in ambulance siren, whale. Speaker 0 00:04:30 Ow. O'Malley whips around to find a younger Frank Cole, trembling, sobbing and bruised staggering toward him from the second car, which is turned on its side. Frank snaps out of his memory. And back into the present. He stands in the steamy shower, caressing Nora from behind peace and love in her eyes, fear and regretting in his, she whispers into his ear. <laugh> I have to go and slips from his embrace. As she exits the shower, grabbing herself in a towel on her way out of the bathroom frame takes a moment before shutting off the water and exiting himself. He hears the vibration of his phone and wraps himself in a towel. As he crosses the room and grabs it from a shelf. He reads the display. It's a text from captain Orson, which reads Zari kid below the text is a link with the foreboding timestamp 6:00 PM. Frank looks intensely from his phone to the bathroom door and back he clicks the link, which activates an audio clip. Speaker 7 00:05:39 I, I don't know. I did it everyone we have to. She's not very nothing. Slow down, slow down, take a deep breath. Where are you? Uh, angel crest highway at near exit two. Were there any witnesses? Uh, I don't Speaker 8 00:05:59 Know. You call an ambulance. Speaker 7 00:06:01 Help me. I'll take care of it. Stay off the phone. I'll be right there. Speaker 0 00:06:06 Frank hangs up breathing heavily and staring haunted into space. Chapter three, deeper in his driveway. Martin sits in his car, breathing deep and regaining his composure. He wipes the remaining tears from his face and exits emotionally drain. He drags himself to his front door, unlocks it. And then there's his foyer hanging his head. Speaker 10 00:06:39 Welcome home. Marty Speaker 0 00:06:40 Martin looks up and his heart rate skyrockets Vera Daz, lounges legs crossed on his couch, late thirties and a woman news menace and beauty are entwined. Vera's business attire reflects her current mood. Speaker 10 00:06:57 Don't look so surprised. You know how I am about protecting my investments. Speaker 0 00:07:02 That line triggers a memory in Martin on a posh restaurant patio. A younger Martin sits at a table in a three piece suit and tie a wireless ear. But in his ear to see to cross from him is empty, but has a place setting. O'Malley's excited. Voice M and A's from the earbud. Speaker 8 00:07:22 I'm telling you this woman's tongue did things that would make a porn star blush. Speaker 11 00:07:28 Congrats. Sounds like it was a good time. Speaker 8 00:07:30 A good time. Come on Marty. Get your nuts outta Angela's person. You're allowed to admire a legendary blowjob. She had me dancing on sunshine in the dark. Speaker 0 00:07:43 Martin checks his watch and surveys. The scene, Speaker 11 00:07:46 Your friends running late. Second thoughts. Perhaps Speaker 8 00:07:50 There's got a lot of irons in the fire. She'll be there. She's dying to meet you. Speaker 11 00:07:55 What have you been saying about me? Speaker 8 00:07:57 I said, if you're looking for a financial advisor, I got you covered my boy. Marty's the best there is. I also said you don't put out on the first date, but it's not out of the question on the second <laugh> Speaker 11 00:08:11 You didn't really say that. Did you Speaker 10 00:08:13 Miss that? Achen Speaker 0 00:08:14 Martin looks up and finds Vera. Now seductively dressed, hovering over the table. His eyes go wide. Speaker 11 00:08:22 Ah, she's here. Ooh, Speaker 8 00:08:23 What is she Speaker 11 00:08:24 Wearing? Talk to you later. I Speaker 8 00:08:25 Bet you can see all the way Speaker 0 00:08:26 Martin disconnects the call and pockets of the earbud. As he rises and offers a handshake, Speaker 11 00:08:31 Comey, Martin, pleasure to meet you. Speaker 10 00:08:33 The pleasure is all mine. Speaker 0 00:08:35 He opens her chair and she takes a seat. Speaker 10 00:08:38 What a gentleman Speaker 11 00:08:40 I was raised well, Speaker 10 00:08:41 Where you, Speaker 0 00:08:42 She takes in the view. Speaker 10 00:08:45 It's beautiful. Speaker 11 00:08:47 It's a favor of mine. I propose to my wife here Speaker 10 00:08:50 Married so young. Speaker 11 00:08:54 Well, we had a kid seemed like the right thing to do Speaker 10 00:08:57 A kid as well. You are stuck. Speaker 11 00:09:01 That's an odd way to put it. Speaker 10 00:09:04 How would you put it? Speaker 11 00:09:06 I would say my life is predetermined. Speaker 10 00:09:10 Nothing is predetermined. That's the beauty of life. There's what you want out of it. And there's what gives you, Speaker 11 00:09:20 Why me? Speaker 10 00:09:22 Your lawyer speaks highly of you. And I trust this judgment. Speaker 11 00:09:27 How do you two know each other? Speaker 10 00:09:29 We have a line in interests. One of which is discretion. And we are both very protective of our investments. Speaker 0 00:09:41 Her flirtation has his full attention. Martin snapped back to his present situation as to AVEs henchman, enter the foyer behind him, flanking him on each side, Speaker 10 00:09:54 Make yourself at home. It is yours. After all Speaker 0 00:09:59 He moves apprehensively into the living room and takes a seat at the opposite end of the couch. Speaker 10 00:10:04 Where is your family? Speaker 11 00:10:06 Please leave them out of this, Speaker 10 00:10:09 But you brought mine into it. Speaker 11 00:10:11 It's not me Speaker 10 00:10:13 Then who? Speaker 11 00:10:14 I don't know. I don't know who this is, what they want. Why they're targeting me? Speaker 10 00:10:17 Watch <inaudible>. Speaker 0 00:10:20 He works to keep his emotions in check. Speaker 10 00:10:23 We will need to reroute operations from the warehouse. The first thing you need to do is offload that property, but you need to tell me everything. Speaker 11 00:10:34 I wish I had something to tell. Speaker 10 00:10:38 Well, maybe they can help jog your memory. Speaker 0 00:10:43 Vera gestures to our men who lean down and lift Martin from the couch in a suburban neighborhood, a detective questions, less Kaminski and obese man in his late fifties, sporting a dirty white tank top and dangling an unlit cigar. In one hand, captain Orson, lingers, nearby taking notes. Speaker 12 00:11:05 All I know is I come home from a late shift, halfway through my TV dinner. You men start banging on my door. Like I stole something. Speaker 0 00:11:14 Have you been contacted by any strange people online, Mr. Kaminski, maybe you opened an email. You shouldn't have gave someone remote access perhaps. Speaker 12 00:11:25 No, and I don't P around with terrorists either. Speaker 0 00:11:29 Could be. You were a target for some sort of swatting, Speaker 12 00:11:33 Wadding Speaker 0 00:11:34 Oron chimes in Speaker 13 00:11:36 Someone could have tricked authorities into believing that you were a threat. Would you mind coming downtown and giving us a statement? It'll really help us with the paperwork. Speaker 0 00:11:44 The detective gestures for Kaminsky to get in this car. Kaminsky looks between them annoyed before zeroing in on Orson. Speaker 12 00:11:53 If you spent more time getting real criminals off the street, you wouldn't need innocent tax paying civilians like me to do the job for you. Speaker 0 00:12:03 Kaminski throws a cigar to the ground and stomps his way to the detective's car. Speaker 13 00:12:08 I appreciate your cooperation, Mr. Kaminski prick, Speaker 0 00:12:13 Just as they get in and drive off an FBI agent brew baker pulls up to the scene, exits his car and approaches Speaker 14 00:12:20 Captain. What do we got? Speaker 13 00:12:23 Another dead end. The voice must have hacked. The Porsche mugs account Speaker 14 00:12:27 Could be a connection between them. Speaker 13 00:12:30 If there is one, we'll find it Speaker 14 00:12:33 We're running outta leads. The van driver was found dead in his cell overnight Speaker 13 00:12:39 Galley's dead. Huh? Must have been one hell interrogation, Speaker 0 00:12:45 Brew baker throws Oron and icy cold glare. Speaker 14 00:12:49 I hope that was merely a poor attempted humor, but on the off chance, it wasn't. I don't appreciate the implication captain. A key witness turning up dead is not caused for celebration at the FBI. Perhaps there was foul play in that jail hell for all I know he did it to himself. It would be a Testament to the depravity of the voices, accomplices that they would be willing to take their own lives to mask his identity. Speaker 0 00:13:16 Brewbaker moves in close. Speaker 14 00:13:18 If you're having doubts of your place in this investigation, captain Orson, I can always find another contact in law enforcement to chaperone this thing. Speaker 13 00:13:31 I'll be sure to work my material. It opened mic night before spring it and on you next time. I'm sure we just want the same thing to bring this guy down, right? Speaker 14 00:13:45 I've ordered a full autopsy. Hopefully you'll get some preliminary results in the morning and start to get to the bottom of this. If that's all right with you. Speaker 13 00:13:55 Hey, it's your show. Speaker 0 00:13:58 Boon's phone rings. He pulls it from his pocket and answers Speaker 13 00:14:01 Go for Oron. Send it over. Speaker 0 00:14:06 Orson gives brew baker a concern look, Speaker 13 00:14:09 Looks like our friend is back Speaker 0 00:14:11 His phone chimes and he reads the display 6:00 PM. A field hospital in Afghanistan, a hurried swarm of medics nurses and military personnel passed by cots, occupying wounded soldiers among the chaos emerges field nurse, Sophie Barnes, 30 and overworked wearing a concerned expression. Clipboard in hand, she approaches a particular co and stands beside it on the cot. A figure lies on their side, facing away from her shivering and whimpering quietly. Sophie closes her eyes and breathes deep before taking a seat beside the bed. Speaker 1 00:14:51 Hello, my name is Sophie. I need to ask you some questions. Is that okay? Can you tell me what happened? Do you know who did this to you? Do you know how many there were Speaker 0 00:15:10 Desperate to help Sophie lean in closer speaking in the hushed, reassuring tone, Speaker 1 00:15:18 Lance scoo Vasquez. I wanna help you. What you need to talk to me. Could you please talk to me? Speaker 0 00:15:29 Claudia turned slightly toward her a few years. Younger, bruised bloodied eyes, hysterical, Claudia shakes and sobs uncontrollably, a shattered human being a parking lot in Griffith park prison day. Claudia pushes back the memory as she sits in her car waiting. She spots present day. Sophie approaching Sophie checks her surroundings. One time before slipping into Claudia's passenger seat. Claudia's mood lightens upon seeing Sophie. Sophie remains guarded Speaker 1 00:16:07 You mind. Speaker 0 00:16:09 Claudia raises her arms. Speaker 3 00:16:11 Do what you gotta do. Speaker 0 00:16:13 Sophie leans in and pats are down. Head to toe and back again. Speaker 3 00:16:17 Good to see you too. Sophie. How are you and Speaker 1 00:16:20 Yours? What do you need? Speaker 3 00:16:23 Uh, I have to move the body. I need your help. Speaker 0 00:16:28 Sophie is dumbfounded. Speaker 1 00:16:30 Is that what the voice is after? Speaker 3 00:16:33 I don't know, but my parole officer sure is Speaker 1 00:16:36 Your PO knows. Speaker 3 00:16:38 She doesn't know she suspects, but I can't risk it. Speaker 1 00:16:43 Perhaps moving it is risking it. She's gotta be keeping you on a short leash. Hell. She'll probably be staking me out now. Speaker 3 00:16:52 I wouldn't have reached out. If I thought there was another way Speaker 0 00:16:57 Sophie PIs to consider it before reaching her decision. Speaker 1 00:17:02 I'm so sorry about what happened to you. Vasque and I'll never forget what you've done for us, but I have a family now. I can't go back. Speaker 3 00:17:12 You won't. This is the last thing, Sophie. This time we'll bury him for good somewhere farther and deeper, and we'll never look back. Speaker 0 00:17:21 Sophie looks Claudia in the eyes with a slight dose of pity Speaker 1 00:17:26 With all due respect. Lance corporal, you live your life. Looking back, take good care of yourself. Speaker 0 00:17:35 She leaves the car, Claudia ponders her words and she plans her next move. And Nora's bathroom. Frank crouches on the floor in the corner. He can still hear the heavy rain that night in the woods. O'Malley regards Frank stunned at his bruised and battered Vista. Speaker 15 00:17:59 Frank. Oh Jesus. I can't help her relax. Here they come. Speaker 0 00:18:05 Two ambulances pull to a stop. Two sets of EMTs rushing to the woods, hauling stretchers. O'Malley nods to Frank's car Speaker 15 00:18:13 She's in that Speaker 0 00:18:14 One then to all Elias's the Speaker 15 00:18:16 Other's still out. Speaker 0 00:18:17 The EMTs sprint toward their respective vehicles. Speaker 15 00:18:20 Zoe, Zoe Frank, come with me. Speaker 0 00:18:23 O'Malley drags Frank away and back to the freeway. Frank sits in the chair in the corner of an ER waiting room. O'Malley sits beside him, whispering in the Frank's ear. Frank's mind, barely holds onto reality. Their attention is taken by a doctor who enters and gestures for Frank to follow. At the end of a hallway, the doctor leans into Frank and confidentially Frank's expression. Gradually turns deterioration, despair. He grabs onto the doctor's lab, coat pleading and desperation, a crowd suit forms, doctors, nurses, security to separate the doctor from Frank's grip and subdue him on the floor. Frank and Nora sitting in a cemetery among friends and family dressed in black as a pastor preaches beside a picture of Zoe. Frank holds Nora close. As she cries on his shoulder in an LA courthouse. Frank is joined by O'Malley as they can soul a weeping Nora on the hallway bench Elias exits from a courtroom nearby, stealing a sorrowful guilt-ridden glance in their direction. As he passes, he stops and approaches them much to his lawyer. Chagrin Nora arises to meet him. Speaker 15 00:19:47 I I'm so sorry if there's anything Speaker 0 00:19:53 I could ever do anything at all, Speaker 15 00:19:58 Bring her back Speaker 0 00:19:59 Before Elis can respond or slaps him across the face. His lawyer pulls him away as Frank and O'Malley hold her back. Frank's mind brings him back to his present crouching on Nora's bathroom floor. He looks to the ceiling pleading silently for more time before pulling himself up in the living room. Nora watches the news as she gets ready for work on the TV news reporter, Patty doum is conducting an on the street segment, holding a microphone in front of a random passerby below them. The Chiron reads, what would you do? Speaker 8 00:20:39 Absolutely not Speaker 16 00:20:41 Really. Not even a hesitation. Speaker 8 00:20:44 The things in my past. Speaker 0 00:20:46 I would definitely have to go in a hiding. Speaker 16 00:20:48 Even if that would trigger the release of a nuclear device and thousands would lose their lives. Speaker 0 00:20:55 Would I be one of them? Speaker 16 00:20:57 No. I'm good with that. Well, some interesting responses to such a harrowing predicament. I'm Patty Durham. And this has been another addition of what would you do back to you in the studio? Speaker 0 00:21:12 Franks, fully clothed. Now his phone dangling from his hand, Nora crosses over and embraces him unaware of the terror in his eyes. When she pulls back it registers. Speaker 17 00:21:26 What, what is it? Speaker 0 00:21:29 Frank looks into her eyes. He holds her face in his hands, taking her in one last time. After a moment, Frank leans into her ear and whispers Nora gradually shakes her head and disbelief more and more aggressively with one son move nor pushes Frank away from her and toward the door with all her weight. Speaker 17 00:21:54 Get out. I'm sorry. Get out. Speaker 18 00:21:57 Please Speaker 17 00:21:58 Get outta my gut. Damn my house. Now Speaker 18 00:22:00 Couldn't tell you it don't I never thought I'd have to tell you, Speaker 17 00:22:03 Touch me, please. Don't touch me. Don't never touch me, kid you monster, please. I hate you. Speaker 0 00:22:12 Nora throws the door open and pushes him out onto the doorstep. She slams the door and Frank stumbles backward, her voice echoes. As he staggers away, head in his hands. Speaker 17 00:22:24 I hate Speaker 18 00:22:24 You. What are you gonna do? Speaker 17 00:22:26 I Speaker 18 00:22:28 Do. What are you gonna do? Look, what are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do? What are you gonna do Speaker 0 00:22:37 After an elementary school recital, parents and kids make their way to the parking lot as they go. They pass by squeak in Claudia squeak looks at Claudia and utter amazement as they engage in a whispered argument. Unaware that squeaks eight year old niece is about to pass by. Speaker 15 00:22:55 I'm not gonna help you dig up a fucking body, Claudia. Hey, Hey sweetie. Great job. Way to go. Speaker 17 00:23:02 Thank you uncle. Speaker 15 00:23:03 Have you lost your mind? Speaker 3 00:23:05 It's someplace secluded squeak. No one will know. Speaker 15 00:23:08 Absolutely not. Listen. I looked into that warehouse. It's been shut down about a year now, officially unofficially, a buddy of mine's been picking up some extra cash, delivering crates there for the port of long beach Speaker 3 00:23:23 Crates of what Speaker 15 00:23:25 I don't know. And neither does he. They pay him. He moves them. No questions asked Speaker 3 00:23:30 They who? Speaker 15 00:23:32 Venture industries, LLC. Speaker 3 00:23:35 Did the name. Martin Chen ring a bell to your guy. Speaker 15 00:23:40 No. Speaker 3 00:23:41 Well perhaps he needs some coercing. Where can I find him? Him Speaker 0 00:23:45 Squeak recognizes the Tor men in her eyes. Speaker 15 00:23:48 Listen, Claudia. I'm worried about you. You gotta move on from this. Speaker 3 00:23:54 You're back with Speaker 15 00:23:55 Your family now, whatever it is, the voice is gonna reveal. Maybe it's best. You just let it happen. And don't you wanna live your life. Speaker 0 00:24:04 Claudia stares off and grows emotional. Speaker 3 00:24:11 I spent three months in that hospital. Sometimes. I don't think I ever made it out. Speaker 15 00:24:23 Claudia Speaker 0 00:24:25 Squeak places a hand on her shoulder. She moves away, slightly refusing his sympathy and putting her guard back up, wiping away a tear. She didn't realize was there. Speaker 3 00:24:37 Let me know if you get any info on that black site will ya. Speaker 15 00:24:41 Of course, Speaker 3 00:24:44 I appreciate you. Speaker 0 00:24:46 She playfully jabs him on the shoulder and heads off the ballroom, packed with law enforcement, letting off steam at a podium. A younger captain Orson gives his speech while balancing a drink in one hand and a plaque in the other. Speaker 13 00:25:02 It's been a blessing being his police captain for the last few years, but a curse having me for a captain though, right? But you persevered many tents and trying ordeals. What sets you apart? You really care for everyone involved. The PERB, the victim, anyone in harm's way. Really? It's your humanity. That's why I see no one more fit to accept this award than officer Franklin Cole. Get up here. You bastard. Maybe we can sway him to run for office. Huh? What do you Speaker 0 00:25:35 Say across the room? A younger Frank Cole downs, his drink and makes his way to the stage. As he passes fellow officers, they pat him on the back. Cheer offer hugs and handshakes. He steps onto the stage and he and Oron embrace. Oron picks him on the cheek. As he holds one side of the plaque. Frank holds the other as their picture is taken Oron steps off the stage, leaving Frank with the plaque and the podium Speaker 18 00:26:02 To truly serve and protect takes unity because I couldn't do what I do without that unity. I share this award with each and every one of you. Not literally, of course, <laugh> this bad boy is coming home with me. <laugh> but um, I truly am honored and grateful. Thank you very much Speaker 0 00:26:24 As Frank steps off the stage and back into a congratulatory crowd, a younger O'Malley slithers up beside him and throws an arm over his shoulder. Speaker 18 00:26:34 Do I know you? Speaker 0 00:26:36 You do now the name's Albert O'Malley O'Malley offers his hand that Frank shakes it. Speaker 18 00:26:41 What can I do you for Albert? Speaker 0 00:26:43 Call me Al. I'm actually here to do for you. O'Malley guides Frank out of the room, Frank and O'Malley stroll along a sparsely populated balcony. Couldn't help, but here you may be making a run for office. Speaker 18 00:26:58 Well, I was a little tough to ignore coming out of the loud speaker and all Speaker 0 00:27:02 <laugh> I'm somewhat of a crisis. Negotiator myself. You could say O'Malley withdraws a card from his inner pocket and passes it to Frank, Speaker 18 00:27:11 A lawyer Speaker 0 00:27:13 In the abstract, I suppose. But all that I offer couldn't possibly fit on a card. Your rep may be impeccable now, but there's nothing. The world loves more than a downfall. Speaker 18 00:27:24 Are you rooting for it? Speaker 0 00:27:26 <laugh> not at all. I admire you. You saved a lot of lives, but anyone can fall prey to a scandal Speaker 18 00:27:34 And you prevent them. Speaker 0 00:27:35 I neutralized them. I could name quite a few law enforcement officials in this building alone, who benefited from my services. I wouldn't of course the balcony entrance door swings, open revealing Orin and the rooftop SWAT officer standing in the doorway with shots in their hand. Speaker 13 00:27:52 Hey Frank, we got a shot with your name on it. Get your ass in here. Speaker 0 00:27:58 Frank waves, a confirmation. Speaker 18 00:28:01 I feel we're putting a cart way before the horse. It's just the thought for the moment. Speaker 0 00:28:06 Well, you hold onto that in case of emergency break, open glass, Frank nods, goodbye and pockets, the card. Congrats. Again. Amal turns his attention to the skyline. As Frank joins his crew, the party winds down. Frank sits at the bar flanked by Orson. Then the rooftop SWAT, they hold their shots together. As the rooftop, SWAT makes a toast Speaker 20 00:28:31 Here's to one silver tongue, son of a gun, a pleasure working with you, Frank, Speaker 18 00:28:37 Thanks for having my back on that roof. Liquor in one hand and a gun in the other, we couldn't take that chance. That kid may not be with us today. If it weren't for you Speaker 20 00:28:47 Wish we could say the same for his pop. Speaker 0 00:28:50 Frank is taken aback behind his back, worse and gestures to the rooftop SWAT to drop the subject. Frank looks between them. Speaker 18 00:28:59 What happened? Speaker 0 00:29:01 Worsen lowers his head. The ashamed of keeping the secret. Speaker 13 00:29:05 When the bullet pierced his shoulder, Frank, the perp subclavian artery was pierced. He didn't make it. Speaker 0 00:29:14 Frank takes it hard, Speaker 20 00:29:16 Sir. I took the shot. This is my burden. Let me carry it. Speaker 18 00:29:22 No. Hey, I made the call. It's mine. Speaker 0 00:29:27 After a moment of reverence or sin, pats him on the back. Speaker 13 00:29:31 Come on, kid. You're still a hero. Speaker 0 00:29:34 Frank shuts his eyes tight against the news. As he takes another shot in his apartment, living room, present day, Frank lounges on his couch, staring intently at the glass on his table and the gun beside it. But this time instead of water, the glass is filled with liquor. He and the glass engage in a stare down in a moment of teary-eyed weakness. Frank takes the drink in his hand and downs it, shaking with regret and shame as the liquor cor through his body for the first time in years, his phone rings beside him. Speaker 18 00:30:12 Yeah. Speaker 5 00:30:14 Is that how you answer the phone? Speaker 18 00:30:15 What's up? Speaker 5 00:30:17 Are you home? Speaker 18 00:30:18 Yeah. Um, it's not a good time. Speaker 5 00:30:21 Pretty sure good times are behind us. Speaker 0 00:30:24 I bang at his window. Frank looks over and sees Claudia appearing through the half closed curtains. He looks incredulous as he reluctantly rises and walks to the door. As soon as he opens it, Claudia breezes past him inspecting every room in his apartment. As she talks Speaker 3 00:30:40 Does venture industries, LLC mean anything to you Speaker 18 00:30:44 Come in. Speaker 3 00:30:45 They own the warehouse. That cop was executed in front of Speaker 18 00:30:49 Doesn't sound familiar. Speaker 0 00:30:51 Claudia returns to the living room and catches a glimpse of Frank's gun and drink sitting on the table. Speaker 3 00:30:56 There's a deadly combination. Speaker 0 00:30:59 She picks up the gun, inspecting its craftsmanship. Speaker 18 00:31:02 It looks like I'm next. The voice called me out 6:00 PM. Tonight. It's a call to my lawyer. I shouldn't have made Speaker 3 00:31:11 What's your lawyer saying Speaker 18 00:31:13 He doesn't know yet. Speaker 3 00:31:14 Well, let's pay him a visit. Something tells me you'll need a ride. Speaker 0 00:31:20 Frank takes the gun from her and places it back on the table Speaker 18 00:31:23 In no offense. This is between the two of us. Speaker 0 00:31:26 Claudia pops down into an armchair beside Frank's end table or frame photos. One of which as always is face down. She casually picks it up, but she talks and inspects it in the photo. Frank holds his late daughter, Zoe and a tight embrace. Their cheeks squeezed against one another exaggeratedly, Speaker 3 00:31:46 No offense, but it's kind of between all of us. If he knows something that can lead us to the voice, this nightmare is over. Puts Speaker 18 00:31:54 That down Speaker 0 00:31:57 Startle. She quickly returns the photo to its face down position. Frank pulls back and calms himself. Speaker 3 00:32:04 What did you do? Speaker 18 00:32:07 You can find out tonight like everyone else. Speaker 0 00:32:10 He decides to let her tag along on one condition. Speaker 18 00:32:14 Were you waiting the car? Speaker 3 00:32:16 I prefer not to, but I'm open to negotiation. Speaker 0 00:32:22 He shakes his head. It hurts tenacity. As promised Claudia waits in the car in the driveway before an immaculate Beverly Hills home Frank stands at the door. O'Malley opens it. He greets Frank with all the mellow dramatic sympathy. He can muster Frank. I'm so sorry about this. Whatever. This is how you holding up. Speaker 18 00:32:48 He knows the voice knows what we did. Speaker 0 00:32:52 What makes you so sure. Frank holds his phone up to him in his home office. O'Malley FRS as Frank's phone sits on his desk, playing out its final moments. Frank sits on the other side, watching O'Malley for facial cues. Speaker 8 00:33:08 You call an ambulance. Help me. I'll take care of it. Stay off the phone. I'll be right there. Speaker 0 00:33:16 O'Malley's empathic. Demeanor is nonexistent. Now you're not my only client on this lunatic. Radar, Martin Chen. Speaker 18 00:33:25 What's his deal. Speaker 0 00:33:26 Client confidentiality. Frank you'd expect just as much from me, Speaker 18 00:33:32 Anything to do with venture industries Speaker 0 00:33:34 That doesn't ring a bell. There's a subtle change in O'Malley's accountants. He scratches his ear and looks away. As he speaks, all tells that Frank notices, Speaker 18 00:33:44 Is there anything you can tell us? Speaker 0 00:33:46 Sorry, Frank, don't sweat it. Square it with Nora. Then play the tragic hero card. You put yourself in peril to save lives. You are on the cusp of becoming a mayor or hopeful. You mismanaged a personal tragedy. Speaker 18 00:34:02 I got eight hours before the live stream. Where can I find Martin? Speaker 0 00:34:06 I wouldn't advise that Frank. Speaker 18 00:34:08 And why is that? Speaker 0 00:34:10 What he's going through right now is 10 times worse. Trust me, you don't want any part of that? Speaker 18 00:34:16 Why aren't you helping us find this guy and put an end to this, Speaker 0 00:34:20 Frank, I get it. You can't afford for this to come out. God knows Nora suffered enough, but it's gonna be out soon and you'll be on the other side of this. And you'll be revered and forgiven because you went through this. You will have spared this country of massive casualties. Now, if you look excuse me, I have an appointment. I'm sorry. O'Malley walks to his office doorway and waits. After a moment, Frank joins him in. They go, Claudia drives with a look of Amus to Bement in the passenger seat. Frank grows exceedingly desperate Speaker 3 00:35:03 Martin <laugh> small world. Speaker 18 00:35:07 We need to get his address. Speaker 3 00:35:09 I know it. Speaker 0 00:35:10 He gives her a look cuz she makes a U-turn. Speaker 18 00:35:12 Do you know where all of us live? Speaker 3 00:35:14 Of course, gate a community though. Speaker 18 00:35:18 Think you'll invite us in. Speaker 3 00:35:21 Maybe he won't need to let's make one last stop. Speaker 0 00:35:25 She whips another. U-turn leaving enraged motorists in her wake, Frank and Claudia stand before an apartment door. As Claudia knocks. After a, a few moments, the door opens just a crack. As a chain guard keeps the opening narrow Sam's face pairs out of it. Eyes darting around them. Frantically a bandage. Adorance his forehead and a few scrapes and bruises linger on his face. Frank and Claudia exchange. A look at the unexpected site of Sam's bed, paranoid state Speaker 3 00:35:59 Who kicked your ass? Speaker 21 00:36:00 What do you want? Speaker 3 00:36:02 Can you open up? We need to talk Speaker 21 00:36:04 About what Speaker 18 00:36:05 We gotta get in touch with Martin and we need your help. Speaker 21 00:36:08 I don't know him. What can I do? I, I can't help you. Speaker 18 00:36:11 You can get us to him. Listen. Speaker 21 00:36:12 How do you know where I live? What, who else is here? Did you bring, are there, did you bring the FBI is the, is the cop with you? What's his name? Hey Speaker 3 00:36:23 Psycho. It's just us. Quit freaking out man, up and open the goddamn door. Speaker 21 00:36:30 I'm dealing with some things right now. Speaker 0 00:36:32 Sam tries to slam the door, but Frank slips a foot in blocking it. Speaker 18 00:36:37 I'm next. We're not going anywhere. So let us in and put the gun away before you shoot yourself. Speaker 0 00:36:45 Sam comes slightly coming back to his senses. Speaker 21 00:36:50 It's gonna happen to you too. It's gonna happen to all of us. Speaker 18 00:36:57 It already is. Speaker 0 00:36:59 Sam lowers his head and breathes deep behind his back. He slips a gun which was hidden, but held at the ready all this time, back into his waist. As he unlocks the door chain in the federal building, brew baker, paces back and forth in a conference room, blinds drawn. He studies a wall monitor, which shows images of the black site, building photos of the recovered nuclear device, the location in which it was discovered and close ups of the device itself. His phone vibrates Speaker 14 00:37:34 Go for Brewbaker who or what was the target? Any idea have all persons of interest been relocated, reviewing the surveillance known. We gotta believe this voice had help from the inside to plant that device. Have every employee in that building investigated, including any who have left in the last eight months. You need to tie up all your loose ends Speaker 0 00:37:57 Brewbaker piece through the clothes. Blinds spots. Orson walked by Speaker 14 00:38:02 And I need a tie of Speaker 0 00:38:03 Mine. Orson grabs his coat and heads out an exit brew Baker's eyes. Follow him all the way Speaker 0 00:38:11 In his apartment. Sam sits at his laptop studying his monitor. Claudia leans along the arm of a couch nearby. Frank keeps his distance in Sam's dining room, working on another drink. As he watches TV on the TV. A news segment runs a montage of images of Rashonda Kelson, each photo transitioning into the next with tacky special effects from her childhood pictures to her elementary school and high school years from her marriage to her husband, Armstrong, Kelson, and birth of their child to the teen version of that child. Josiah Kelson, the voice of a news anchor plays over it all with an inappropriately sensational tone, Speaker 16 00:38:55 Child daughter, business woman, mother murderer, just who is Rashonda. Kelson wants a simple mother raising an innocent young boy. Kelson now stands as an accused killer, but her vengeance on the officer who took her son's life has now led her to a fight for her own. Join us live tomorrow night as I sit down for an exclusive one on one with Rashonda Kelson, we'll explore her life as wife of social justice, Crusader and lawyer Armstrong Kelson, as well as her work as a community organizer in her own right? Now play of protests and demonstrations in front of Rhonda's jailhouse, both sides of protestors, yell and scream at one another one protestor wear the t-shirt that says the voice is our voice. Speaker 22 00:39:58 We stand with Rashonda. We stand with every mother whose son has been taken from them. And the hands of police whose abuse of authority will no longer be tolerated. The voice understands that our anger will no longer be ignored and our sister will not stand alone. Speaker 0 00:40:19 Another protestor takes an opposing view. Speaker 8 00:40:22 They need to look at violence in their own communities before taking their frustrations out on law enforcement, who does their side? No good to uphold lawlessness. Whoever this voice is, is not a hero. He's a grave danger to our society and must turn himself in immediately. This is not how you achieve justice to achieve justice through the courts. Speaker 0 00:40:46 Video footage plays of Rashonda in an orange prison jumpsuit in court with her lawyer standing before a judge, Speaker 16 00:40:52 We'll ask Rashonda for her thoughts on the ground. Swell of love from her supporters and the onslaught of demonization from her detractors. Well even delve into how she feels about her. Hmm. Commercialization, Speaker 0 00:41:09 Videos feel the screen of protestors wearing team Kelson hats and their opposition sporting team Devlin. T-shirts Speaker 16 00:41:17 Join us for all of this and more tomorrow night at 10 Speaker 0 00:41:21 As the news, drones on Sam watches, engulfed in the story as well as his own pain and guilt. Sam, the only one you can hear that voice jumps in his seat a little before, closing his eyes and regaining his composure. Claudia notices and grins Speaker 3 00:41:41 Demons catching up to you. Speaker 21 00:41:43 What do you know about it? Speaker 3 00:41:45 You kidding my demons and I are the best of friends. Speaker 21 00:41:49 Oh yeah. Yours. Got you barricaded in your home. Wondering who's gonna break in next. Speaker 3 00:41:55 If you think I'm gonna have a pity party for a murderer, you can forget it. Speaker 21 00:42:00 My partner killed that kid. I didn't do Speaker 3 00:42:03 Anything exactly. You didn't do anything. Speaker 0 00:42:07 That one hits Sam deeply. Speaker 3 00:42:09 Meantime, you make out like abandoned. According to the news, you've got supporters crowdfunding you. Uh, what is it? Close to a mill. Now Speaker 21 00:42:18 I got nothing to do with those racist Speaker 3 00:42:20 Assholes too bad. It's your goddamn base now? How's it feel making money off of killing a black Speaker 18 00:42:25 Kid enough? Speaker 0 00:42:27 Frank's voice coils. The argument. Speaker 18 00:42:29 Sam, check the email again. Speaker 0 00:42:30 Sam looks at his laptop. Yeah. Speaker 21 00:42:32 Got it. Okay. An informant of ours was able to hack his wifi security code. Speaker 0 00:42:38 Frank Downs, the rest of his drink and rises. Claudia follows suit and both take a place behind Sam watching his screen. Speaker 21 00:42:44 What makes you think Martin knows any more than we do Speaker 18 00:42:48 His lawyer? My lawyer and my lawyer's full of shit. Speaker 3 00:42:52 Let's go. Speaker 0 00:42:53 Claudia heads out. Frank starts after her, but Sam grabs him by the arm. Speaks to him in confidence. Hey, Speaker 21 00:43:02 You're black. Why aren't you like tearing me apart right now? Speaker 18 00:43:11 Maybe that's what the voice wants. Speaker 0 00:43:13 Frank walks to the door then stops to face Sam. Once more Speaker 18 00:43:17 Besides if I don't forgive you, who's gonna forgive me. Speaker 0 00:43:24 Frank goes, Sam takes a moment to reflect on that before heading out to join them. O'Malley reclines in the back of his limousine on his phone. Speaker 5 00:43:36 He's not talking Speaker 0 00:43:37 No way. A domestic terrorist picks four strangers at random. He's hiding something and we need to get it out of him. Speaker 5 00:43:44 He was your idea. He's your responsibility. Speaker 0 00:43:47 He behinds that. Is he ready as a line of Coke and snorts put him on VE arises from the couch and crosses to Martin who sits bloodied and bound in a chair. She holds the phone to his ear. Speaker 11 00:44:05 Hello? Speaker 8 00:44:07 Hey buddy, Speaker 11 00:44:09 Al, what's going on? Speaker 8 00:44:12 That's we need to know Marty. Just tell zero who the voice is. Her people pay this troll to visit. And this all ends. Speaker 11 00:44:19 I don't know. Please help me. Speaker 8 00:44:22 Well, that's what I'm trying to here, buddy, but we need to help each other. Huh? Come on. Give us a name. Speaker 0 00:44:28 Martin pulls his face away from the phone and frustration. Speaker 10 00:44:32 This isn't working. Speaker 8 00:44:34 There's a chance he really doesn't know. Speaker 10 00:44:36 And there's a chance he really does. Speaker 8 00:44:39 All right, I'm heading over to you. Maybe I can talk some into him. Speaker 0 00:44:43 Vera hangs up and leans over. Martin stroking his cheek. Speaker 10 00:44:48 Oh Marty. Where did we go? Wrong. We had such high hopes for you. You could have had it all. Perhaps I overestimated your loyalty. Why wouldn't you tell me who your friend is? Speaker 11 00:45:08 Vera, please. Someone set me up. Speaker 10 00:45:12 Who? Speaker 11 00:45:13 I don't know. Speaker 10 00:45:14 Who are the other three? Speaker 11 00:45:16 I don't know. Speaker 10 00:45:19 Or someone as smart as you, you don't seem to know very much. We're running eruptions, but we still have a few. Speaker 0 00:45:28 She nods to one of our men who ready is a needle. Her other man grabs Martin's arm. Ties it down and rolls up his sleeve. Speaker 11 00:45:37 No, please. Vera please. Don't please. Speaker 0 00:45:41 Martin slugged across the face. One year earlier, Martin makes dinner for Angela and his son miles. He clearly has no clue what he's doing in the kitchen as he makes a mess and burns himself. But Angela politely obliges his indulgence. Speaker 10 00:45:59 Do you need help, Speaker 11 00:46:00 Sweetie? No, I got it. I'm good. Speaker 0 00:46:03 A splash from a boiling pot forces Martin to recoil. Ah, Speaker 10 00:46:07 Are you sure about that? Speaker 11 00:46:09 Just sit back and let me work. My magic. Speaker 0 00:46:12 Angela shares a laugh with her son that Martin's expense as he fixes two plays of food and places them before them Speaker 11 00:46:20 For my little guy and my little birthday girl. Speaker 10 00:46:24 Thank you, Marty. Speaker 0 00:46:25 Angela leans in and they share a kiss before they can share another. The doorbell rings separating the two. As they exchange looks of curiosity. Martin opens his front door, revealing Vera. The sex appeal turned down, but not by much. Speaker 11 00:46:44 Vera is everything okay? Speaker 10 00:46:47 Did I interrupt something? Speaker 11 00:46:49 No. Well, we were just sitting to breakfast. Speaker 0 00:46:52 Vera appears over his shoulder. He follows her eyes to find Angela standing behind him. Speaker 11 00:46:58 Oh Vera. This is my wife, Angela Speaker 0 00:47:01 Angela approaches. And Martin throws an arm around her doing a little too much Vera shakes. Angela's hand that's the two size, one another up. Speaker 11 00:47:10 It's her birthday. Speaker 10 00:47:12 Lovely. Do you mind if I borrow Marty for a moment? Well, okay, but be sure to bring him back the way you found him. Speaker 0 00:47:22 Vera barely smiles as Martin leads her away. Angela's politeness fades watching them go Speaker 10 00:47:29 Marty Speaker 0 00:47:32 On Martin's patio. He in Vera sit beside one another at a table. Martin holds a tablet in his hands, scrolling occasionally as he studies it, Vera watches him and admiration. Speaker 11 00:47:44 What do you plan to do Lisa? Speaker 10 00:47:47 That to not an option, Speaker 11 00:47:49 Industrial assets are making a comeback. I look into it. It's all about location and what it could be used for of course, being in close proximity to coastal ports. That's a huge plus. Speaker 10 00:48:04 I need you to take a trip for me. Speaker 0 00:48:06 Martin's attention is taken away from the tablet, Speaker 11 00:48:09 A trip where Speaker 10 00:48:12 To Brazil Speaker 11 00:48:13 <laugh> I can manage international properties from here. Speaker 10 00:48:18 Yes, but I'm very hands on. When it comes to my business, Speaker 0 00:48:24 She rubs Martin's leg under the table. He sits straight up, looking around for his wife Speaker 10 00:48:30 In this particular interest needs a personal touch. Trust me. I will make it worth your while. Speaker 0 00:48:40 Martin's mind returns to his presence situation. Martin now lies on the floor, still bound to the chair and now gagged. He is bruised and barely conscious Vera studies him from the couch. Speaker 10 00:48:56 What would it take to break you? Your wife, perhaps your child. Would it take the sound of your child begging for his life or are you the only one you truly care about Speaker 0 00:49:13 The security code beeps at the front door? Garrett perks up. Speaker 10 00:49:17 Hmm. Looks like we'll find out sooner rather than later Speaker 0 00:49:22 On her command. Her men flank each side of the door. Martin, please through his gag. Speaker 11 00:49:28 No please. No, Speaker 0 00:49:30 They draw their guns. Hold them at the ready. Then. Wait, the door opens. No one's there. The men exchange confusion. One of them raises his gun and steps closer to the outside. As he leans out, ah, a bullet penetrates his leg and he goes down before the other man can react. Frank Claudia and Sam rush in Vera leaps to her feet. Martin agrees a deep sigh of relief. Sam trains his gun on the fallen. Benjamin Frank aims his at the one left standing as he addresses the room. Speaker 10 00:50:08 Hey, Speaker 11 00:50:10 What's up? Speaker 10 00:50:11 What the hell do you think you're doing? We're gonna need to borrow him. Speaker 0 00:50:15 Claudia crosses to Martin and then does his restraints. We don't want him any trouble. Speaker 10 00:50:21 You haven't seen trouble. Marty. Your friends are gonna make it worse for you. Ooh, Speaker 3 00:50:27 Marty. Huh? Why are we that? Close Speaker 0 00:50:31 Claudia Hoy Martin up and helps him to the door. The fallen henchman makes a move for his gun. Don't even think about it. But Sam Aimes squarely for his head and the henchman moves his hand away. Sam keeps aim as Frank, Claudia and Martin all moved to the doorway. Speaker 3 00:50:48 You will regret this. Speaker 0 00:50:49 Claudia stops eyes Vera. One last time Speaker 3 00:50:53 You should be thanking us for what you're still breathing. Speaker 0 00:51:00 The foursome retreat out the door, slamming it after them. By the time the Benjamin that followed their car speeds out the driveway and into the night. Vera stands in the doorway. Fuming at the long beach police department, captain Oron lingers by the front desk. He grows a wide smile as Lieutenant Dorsey approaches, Speaker 13 00:51:23 Lieutenant Dorsey, Speaker 1 00:51:26 Lieutenant, you must need a really big favor. Speaker 0 00:51:30 They embrace as only good friends. Do Speaker 1 00:51:33 Good to see you. Captain Speaker 13 00:51:35 How's. The family Speaker 1 00:51:36 Kids are as bad as ever. Speaker 13 00:51:38 Well, that's their default setting. Speaker 1 00:51:41 What brings you out to long beach? Speaker 13 00:51:43 I need to take a look at some security footage. Speaker 1 00:51:46 That's it? Speaker 13 00:51:48 Well, this footage has likely been restricted by the FBI Speaker 0 00:51:56 In a security room Oron and Dorsey stand behind a security guard who sits before a wall of monitors. As he clicks on his mouse, a particular video rewinds and plays back in it. Galley the getaway driver slouches nonchalant in the chair of an empty interrogation room. A moment later brew baker enters it. A Manila folder is tucked under one arm. As he carries two cups of water. He places one cup in front of galley and takes his seat across from him, horse and smiles curiously. Speaker 13 00:52:31 I've been working with that guy for the last four months. He never offered me anything. Speaker 1 00:52:35 Looks like that may have been a good thing. You suspect foul play. Speaker 13 00:52:42 I like to keep an open mind. Lieutenant Speaker 0 00:52:47 6:00 PM in her bedroom, Nora curls up on her bed, watching TV and crying, tears of anger and loss, an old stuff. Teddy bear clutch to her chest on the TV. The familiar audio wave moves along to the rhythm of the voice's speech pattern above the audio wave reads breaking news. The Chiron below reads the voice speaks again. Speaker 8 00:53:14 It is not power that corrupts its fear. The fear of losing everything you have and everything you love Speaker 0 00:53:27 Back in his car. Oron watches from his phone, shaking his head and sympathy. Speaker 8 00:53:33 Sam made a sacrifice in return. You received the location of a nuclear device. That's one down three to go. I'm a man of my word. Are you a man of yours? Frank Speaker 0 00:53:57 Elias, older frazzled and disheveled is life clearly in disarray. Since the car crash slouches and a robe and tank top looking miserable. As he watches the broadcast on an old school TV in a rickety home, Speaker 8 00:54:11 I had high hopes for you. I supported your campaign. You were saving the world, but you soon learned that you can't save everyone. It's given you a privileged life that the privilege should not get to define justice. A Elias deserved justice, Speaker 0 00:54:39 A Elias perks up with the sound of his name. Speaker 8 00:54:42 He deserved to know he wasn't responsible for your daughter's death. You were, you were Frank you and your alcohol dependency. Speaker 0 00:55:00 Elias is filled with pain, rage, sadness, and confusion all at once in Sam's apartment. He and Claudia are fixated on the transmission as well. Martin lies on the couch, regaining his strength. Frank sits alone in Sam's kitchen, drinking and brooding as his conscience takes him back to that fateful decision. And in LA medical center, patient room, O'Malley tosses a disoriented Frank into the bathroom and turns the shower faucet on. Get your clothes off, Frank, hurry up and get in there.
